v6 question

I was reading some stuff about how to make get a little more power out of your v6 using stuff you have at home. one of these things was to drill holes in your water plate under your airfilters to allow more air to them. has anyone tried this at all, or thinks that it would be a good or bad idea. I want to try it but dont really want to mess anything up.

Re: v6 question

A few little holes are not going to help much. I have completely cut out the bottoms entirely and fitted little scoups in essence like a funneled ram air setup directing air off the front grill into the flilter bottoms. It really did NOT help any.
The problem with these cars is how the air gets directed over and under the nose at speed. It just doesn't breach into the grill cavilty towards the radiator at all- Proof of this is why GM had to retrofit all 3rd gen Camaro's AND Pontiacs alike with the plastic air dam piece up underneath the cars to divert airflow up into the radiator at speed. Take this off and your car will cool fine at very low street speeds -30mph range but will start to overheat on the freeway on hot days due to cavitation of air flow through the front grill.
In other words- Its a waste of time.

Re: v6 question

I cut out the bottom of the air boxes and built me some scoops and noticed a little gain in the top end but nothing amazing. It is just one of those free mods that will add up with others.
