Few questions

Alright first off i have a 90 rs 3.1 V6. I just purchased it about a month or so ago..... its starting to have a few issues and just wanted you guys input on a few things.

Issue #1 When i put the car in reverse it makes a loud popping sound and continues it while its in reverse, as soon as i put it in drive the popping goes away, its only there in reverse. I originally thought it was the universal joint, i have since replaced it and the problem is still there. I've pretty much narrowed it down to the rear end, but not knowing exactly what to do with it. Just junk it and get another? Need fluid? What?

Issue #2 Car has A LOT of lag, its getting worse and worse. Since i've had it I've replaced the plugs, checked the Air filter (fairly new), it already has a brand new fuel filter installed. It does it mostly at 50%+ throttle, sometimes less. I can be cruisin at 55 or so and get on it to pass and it acts like i geared it down and quit giving it gas..... dont know what all i need to check for this. Could the rear end be causing this? (Slim chance, but i dunno)

Issue #3 Heater doesn't really work. I wouldnt be too worried about it but it recently began to hit 20's again around here and its bad ridin with no heat. If the heater is off you can feel slightly warm air coming out of it, but when i actually turn it on it goes pretty much ice cold. Could this be the heater core or what? Theres no water in the floor board (which normally indicates a bad heater core). But then again i dont know much about these cars. The only other camaro i've owned was a 78 and it was slightly different than this one..and it was v8 carb and all.....

Any help on ANY of these will be appreciated!

Re: Few questions

issue 1: double check and triple check your transmission mount and your torque arm mounts. Your torque arm mounts are most likely to blame if you hear the sound in reverse.

issue 2: It's tune-up time. Plugs, wires, cap and rotor and coil are all suspect.

issue 3: Your thermostat is probably missing. Your engine is making just a little heat and then you turn on the fan and remove what little heat you made

Re: Few questions

Thanks for all the info....

As for the third issue, it was working fine up until about 3 days ago, it just stopped. Its running about 200 degrees, which is a little bit warmer than normal.....but if thats the case the heater should be kickin.... Thanks for the info though!

Re: Few questions

Check your cat. It could be to blame for the bogging.

Re: Few questions

If it was working a few days ago, you have two places to go. First, check your heater valve. It should be on the right hand side with a vacuum port on top. Feel the hoses going in and out of that black valve and see if you are transmitting heat.

Next, check your thermostat. They are cheap enough that you should buy a new one if you are gonna take the housing off.
