hello,everyone i need help,friday nigh i decided how bad will i get beat when i pull out my 1991 3.1 firebird to the illeagl street races in pa?well bad ideal i was starting to race another bock stock 3.1 camaro and i netural bombed it and then i heard something sound like it unbolted i was scared as hell?so now every time i punch her from a light something under my shifter makes a loud bang i think i broke something on the trans but trans shift smoothly doesn't overheat i just can't take off really fast without hearing the loud bang any help anybody please help ?????????

 

sigh u broke the transmission mount. if u continue to nutral drop that trans u wont have a working transmission for long

 

Yeah, back when I was 16 I did a lot of neutral drops in my Caprice. One day it would barely go reverse. I had the tranny fluid changed (didn't know much about cars back then lol) and the mechanic handed me a bottle full of teeth from the gears, lmao.

Redline, if you want to have fun doing burnouts, just use your left foot for the brake and floor the gas with your right. Let off the brake slowly and the car will start spinning the rear passanger tire. This way you are only wasting your rubber .

 

and don't forget to replace that tranny mount, ASAP!!!

 

how hard is the transmission mount to replace also i can burn out for some reason i'm a expert on burning out she just won do it for some reason i think the previous owner put to big of tires on it also i buy these cars and sell them anyone interested? $2500 obo or partial trade cash plus car?

 

also i looked a transmission mount up and the rand from like $15-40 dollars and you guys shore thats what's making this loud *** noise when i punch it;the piece is all of cd player remote and its causing that big *** sound?thanks rob

 

Yes they are sure. What you are doing right now when 'punching it' is tearing the crap out of your car by means of your transmission slamming into your floorboard because the mount is broken. Keep doing it and you'll sell that car for $20
The torque are is mounted to the side of the trans (On factory stock setups) and the upward thrust of that torque arm is what breaks the old, worn, & weak factory trans mount- thus lifting up the entire trans into the trans tunnel and making that o-so-pleasant noise you are dicovering sounds like someone hitting the floorboard with a sledgehammer- Are we clear now?

trans mount

the tq arm mounts to the side of the transmission, when u hit the gas the tq arm lifts up on the back of the trans,which in turn pulls on the trans mount,eventually the forces applied to the trans mount make them break. once they break the tq arm lifts the back of the trans and slams it against the floor, besides the annoying clunk it also changes the angle on the front u joint and can cause it to prematurely wear out if u dont replace the trans mount.

ur lucky u dont have a stick shift car,otherwise ur shifter would be poping up threw the floor whenever u got on the gas

yeah sounds like the transmission mount. same thing happend to me except i wasnt nuetral bombing it i just had a crazy girlfriend who decided it would be a good idea to throw my car in reverse when i was going 45. after that the transmission would make that banging sound from a launch. i lost the girlfriend and got the mounts, but then again im not totally sure that throwing the trasmission into reverse was the how thing the guy who owend the car before me could have nuetral bombed the heck out of it for all i know

 

its easy jack up the car put it on stands, put a floor jack under the trans pan(with a piece of wood on it) jack up enough to catch the wieght of the trans .

take out the bolt for the trans mount then the 4 cross member bolts, remove cross member,then remove the 2 bolts holding the other half of the trans mount to transmission,install new mount i.e put 2 bolts in to hold mount to trans, grab cross member hold it in place,install nut on trans mount,leave lil loose,install 4 bolts to hold cross member in car. lower jack from under trans and then tighten the bolt from the crossmember to trans mount. lower car and ur done

 

I was with my friend and he had a 383 2200 stall with the 700r4 stock trans mount. Man when it broke you should have seen that torque arm almost launched the rearend out of it needless to say it can hurt did scare the sh@# out of me. Or just go ahead and nuetral bomb it till it gives

I'm not going to defend you. If you are honest about the cars you sell, then are you going to tell the buyer that you had to replace the tranny x-member because you were neutral dropping it? I agree with the other guys that it was a bad move, and you are asking too much. I just got mine in Aug or Sept for $2600 with less than 2/3's the miles yours has, and in near mint condition. In fact I was really impressed that it appeared my car had never been jacked up (at least not by the stock jack in the stock locations), and still has the origional window sticker and owners manual.

 

Well you know what I was asking for what what I wanted for the car if you guys arent interested dont say nothing at all keep all the negative comments to your self I don't need hate'n a(ss people to tell me what to do and what to ask and great for you that you got one for for $2600 dont you need a pat on your back great for you so when your ready to race me with your 3.1 put against my 84 regal 455 and see your near mint get dogged and be just like mine i was being cool not no more!!!!!!!!1
