stock heads handle .440lift? How about .470"?

if not, can you get .440 lift with just new valvesprings or do you have to machine the heads?

id have to dbl check but i belive the retainer crashes into the guide/seal at approx .490-.500 lift
and i forget what the stock springs are good to,but if ur gonna go up in lift u should replace them anyways, comp cams offers 2 diff spring sets one set is slightly more (about 5-7$'s) but is a lil stiffer spring

yeah, I'm pretty sure my bro was gonna get springs for the heads, just wanted to make sure they didn't need any extra machining. The local machine shop wants $160 for a complete rebuild and valve job. Is that a good deal?

I think my dad told me that would include any parts except springs. and he does a 3-angle grind.

That's not too bad, most heads I have brought in cost that per head.

Ttype, did you pull your bro's engine when you pulled the pan, or have you pulled the pan with the motor in the car?

just saw this reply... you might have figured from my post in one of your threads that I tried to weld the fitting with the pan still on. I only welded around the bottom and used 500*F Permatex around the whole thing. Never leaked (given ALL three WEEKS of use)!
