transaxle

there was some talk about taking other gm transaxle motors and coverting them to be rear wheel drive engines. i was just wondering how hard it is to do. and if its even worthwhile

Re: transaxle

IMO , it's generally not worth it unless you are willing to have a lot of install issues, but end up with something that is definitly unique. There's harnesses, starters, transmissions, driveshafts, motor mounts, hoses, sensors and all the other stuff thatgoes into it with a lot of planning and test fitting.

If all you're looking for is more power, do an engine upgrade to something that's already rear drive, preferably a motor that was available in the fbody at some point (660, small block-based motors), but that's all my personal opinion.

Re: transaxle

yeah thats what i was afraid of. i was thinking about trying to find a rebuild of the 3.8L turbo they put in the ttA and the buick grand nationals, but i'll might just end up going with the 3.1 again because i need an engine soon because the last one had a piston rod break and just tore up the engine.

Re: transaxle

3.4 upgrade man, best bang for the buck, and easiest. do a search for it and youll find all kinds of stuff. plus check out the write up by KED85 in the tech articles. He did an amazing job on that.
