2.8 won't idle

My 89 2.8 firebird won't idle at all. it started out just being occasional, stalling out as i'd pull up to a red light or stop sign. Then my muffler came off a week ago, but didn't run any worse, then a few days ago it just stopped idling. It will not idle to save its life. makes it annoying when i pull to a stop sign. I did the paperclip code scan trick and got codes 24 and 34. What do these mean and what should I do? I really don't want to spend a lot of money, but i might have to i guess.

Re: 2.8 won't idle

Code 24 is your speed sensor and code 34 is your MAF (mass air flow sensor) They are a little expensive to get from a parts store but you can replace it in like 5 min yourself. It is the sensor that is between the TB and airbox. But first check for a loose connection or rubbing wires that go to the sensor before you replace it.
