Couple questions about 3.4 V6
If I do the swap, and leave in my T5 and all that stuff, what kind of performance does it offer? Can a 3.4 be modified to be worth it, or is it better to just keep the 2.8? What car would I get a 3.4 from that would direct bolt into my 89 Firebird?
Re: Couple questions about 3.4 V6
You will pick up about 25hp and 25 lb/ft of torque by swapping in a stock 3.4 plus any mods you do to a 3.4 will yield more hp and torque than they would on a 2.8 because it has much larger displacement. The 3.4's came in '93-'95 camaros and firebirds. If you can find one for a good price go for it. I would have already done this but I havn't found any 3.4's that dont have well over 100k miles on them.

If it was over 100k, I'd probably rebuild it.. But do they make better intakes, bottom end, valves, lifters, cam, and stuff like that for it? Or is it something you just kinda have to live with?

Re: Couple questions about 3.4 V6
Depending on what year your 2.8 is, the stock 3.4 has an upgradded bottom end.
The intake has shorter runners, provides a little more top-end. It would be alot of re-routing stuff, and new throttle cable to install it. Not really worth the work.
Valves are the same as a RWD FI 2.8/3.1
Lifters are the same as all other RWD 2.8/3.1
Cam is very similar to that of the mpfi 2.8/3.1, so close you wont notice the difference
As for aftermarket, there is performance stuff for everything you asked except lifters.

Re: Couple questions about 3.4 V6
I've got a good deal on a 1.6 Bar (16 PSi) turbo, and intercooler from a late 80's audi, if I were to get a boost controller, and all that fun stuff, would that be okay for a 3.4?
Re: Couple questions about 3.4 V6
What size motor does that audi have? As long as it's bigger than ~2.5 liters then the turbo would work fine. And what do you mean by 1.6 bar turbo? Does it have an internal wastegate set at 1.6 bar? You won't be able to run that much boost with the stock ecu, your best bet would be to build a megasquirt Firstfirebird has one on his turbo v6 so he would probably be the one to ask about that.

It was from an 80's Audi, I'll ask my buddy more about it tommorow, but for 30$, it would be better than nothing. It's definatly over 2.5 litres, though.

Re: Couple questions about 3.4 V6
The early years, like the carb ones, and maybe 85 model FI ones, the oil passages were different then the later years.
IIRC, the rear main seals are different as well.
Journel size is different IIRC
The 3.4 got a better oil pickup unit (which can be put on the other years).
The guy that has the turbo s10 could prob give you more detals. I mainly dealt with the last models of these, and not the bottom end either.

Re: Couple questions about 3.4 V6
Edit to my previous post, the turbo is out of a 2.2, but can boost over 20PSi before it's overboosting. It was 20 bucks, with the intercooler..

I'm going to have to find another turbo of the same kind, and do a twin setup. Still looking for a 3.4...
