I have been thinking about building a 2.8 stroker for a while and was looking at ARI. They have one that makes the 2.8 into a 3.1 (I know just go buy a junker 3.1 and use the crank) and they have one that strokes a 2.8 into a 3.4. I know that I can swap in a 3.4 into my car easy, what if I ordered that stroker kit a put it into a 3.4. What kind of displacement would I be looking at?

i got the kit with .040 over pistons and the flexplate for the 700R4 if you wanna buy it.. never used still in most of the packages.. the 3.4 uses the 3.1 crank but has a larger bore so the pistons would not function well in the 3.4 block..

You can't stroke a 2.8 into a 3.4. The 3.1 and 3.4 have the same crank, but you would have to overbore your 2.8/3.1 block a lot to fit the 3.4 pistons.

I thought the kit stroked the motor to a 3.4 which is why I asked. It sounded a little weird to me. So both of those kits are just a beefed up 3.1 and 3.4 that I can pull out of a Camaro? I am just saving up for a motor build and just getting an idea of what I want to do and what it will cost.

2.8 and 3.1 blocks are the same . If it is an early 2.8, it might have smaller crank journals. 3.1 is a stroked 2.8 and a 3.4 is like a bored 3.1. The 3.4 also has provisions for a EDIS and that means a 3400 head swap will be easier in the future, lol.

I vote to get a running 3.4 if you can.

I know what all of the differences are between the motors. I plan on buying a junk 3.4 and rebuiding it. The 3.4s are just starting to show up at the local pick n' pull so I can get one for cheap. I also plan on doing to top end swap. There are plenty of 3400s at the yard to.

Since the 3.4 was only in the 93-95 camaro's you'll be hard pressed to find one. So the FWD 3400's are a good option, but won't work without some trouble. The FWD block has different bosses for the motor mounts and the starter is on the wrong side. Once you get past that, same block ('cept for the heads, but thats a different thread).

I don't know about the others, but I put a 3.1L crank in my 2.8 block and bored it .060" over. The "3.4" is bored .120 over the 2.8/3.1 block. The reason I say "3.4" is because its really is a 3.35 something. My .060 over is a 3.25, close enough and I didn't have to pay for the 3.4L block.

I don't want to have to redrill for the starter and mess with motor mouts. I just want a motor that I can reuse the mounts and tranny that are in my car. I plan on just using a rebuilt 3.4 with 3400 heads possibly and a mild cam. I may turbo the motor later.
