No power..tell me something I'm missing.

Lately, I'm getting no power at all. Done the tuneup thingy and the dizzy is about a year old. I took the ICM out and cleaned the surface and put on some Artic Silver 3 instead of the basic thermal compound. I took a screwdriver and listened to my injectors and all of them were "clicking". At least they are firing...maybe. I'm getting no trouble codes at all. The cat is still stock (15 years old). On a dark night and after 30 min. of driving, the cat does'nt glow red at all. That might be ok...possibly collapsed and being restrictive. I dont' know what my RPMs are as my tach is prob off anyways. No way of checking because I have'nt got a tachometer yet to compare actual RPM to gauge. HELP!!! This is getting annoying! The only thing I can think of is timing chain needs replacing or cat. I thought it might be compression, but I get at least 20 mpg.

Whats you idea of power? try this: your Car weighs atleast 3,000lbs you motor might make the full 140hp/185ft lbs tq if its in Perfect condition. now add 15 years of Suspension, wheel bearing, wireing, fuelsystem, engine, trans, etc degredation and you get like mabe 100hp pushing all that weight with all the other things working against you.

Oh and if your expecting the cat to glow your previous cars had some serious and dangerous problems. The cat should get real hot but not hot enough to glow, metal has to get to like 2,000+ degrees to glow.

Re: No power..tell me something I'm missing.

If you have the stock cat, then you have a pellet bed cat to begin with...they tend not to get more restrictive because they suck a fat one to begin with.

There are plenty of things that can cause a lack of power:

Bad Fuel FIlter
Bad Air Filter
Bad MAP/MAF
Bad TPS
Bad ECT
Bad IAT
Clogged Cat
Clogged Muffler
Bad Fuel Pump
Vacuum Leak
Bad Fuel Pressure Regulator
The List goes on and on

Unfortunatly, guessing is what gets people into trouble and lack of power complaints are the hardest to track down unless it's an obvious problem, because everyone's concept of power output is different.

Start witht he basics and never assume that a new part is good. You have to be able to prove it.

I had the same problem at one time, It was a clogged cat. I would look into that first. Replaced mine with a hi-flow cat and made a huge difference! I would look into that for sure.

Well...I've replaced every sensor except the VSS and Knock. The fuel filter is less than 6 months old. The fuel pressure is 44 psi and 40 psi while running. I got 2 K&N air filters. Muffler might be clogged as well as cat. Its a Flowmaster and about 12 years old. I'll replace the cat first to see if that makes a difference. Thanks guys.
