Where would I look for an id number on a 3.8 ? Its suppose to be a 99 camaro and was stored in a garage as a spare [25000 miles]. There must be some way to verify the year.

There are a few ways just by looking at it...keep in mind these are for completely stock, unmolested engines....
95-02 will say "3800 Series II" on the intake manifold
95-98 are designed with a angled intake manifold meaning the Throttle body is attached to the intake manifold at an angle (angled towards drivers side)
99+ have "straight" Throttle bodies...meaning the Intake Man. is not angled and the TB is mounted straight forward
