Another 86 2.8 Camaro question (Temp Guage)

My temp guage isnt reading correctly at all. I put a scanner on it to see if the ECM was reading the correct temperature and it was so I'm assuming I have a bad sending unit for the guage. Can anyone point me to a location on the engine where the correct sender would be that controls the temp guage itself? I saw a few posts referring to the one just behind the ac compressor on the driverside head but didnt know if they kept that one there for 86 models or not. I'm hoping its a bad connection or something but gambling on the sensor itself and dont want to pull the wrong one

Thanks again for the help

I should also state that the temp guage seems to only move from the 0 position to 100 and according to the ecm scan its detecting 180 to 190 so I'm hoping its either a wire issue from rats or something or the sending unit provided I can locate the correct one

Re: Another 86 2.8 Camaro question (Temp Guage)

The sending unit is indeed behind the compressor. I was just looking at mine because I am swapping the cluster out and need to change from a switch for an idiot light to a sending unit for the gauge.

The biggest problem I am having right now is actually finding a sending unit. The moron at Autozone tried to tell me there's no such thing and wanted to sell me a coolant temperature sensor instead. The only place I have been able to find a temp sending unit listed at all is here at Summit Racing.

Thanks for the info After further examination it looks like the wire is indeed intact GRRR so guess I'll be in the same boat as you .

Thanks again
