Multimeter and TPS

have the digital multimeter and jumper wires..

i disconnect the harness connecter and put the jumper wires in both the TPS and connecter on harness... then i put the multimeter connecters in the harness with the wires

dark blue wire goes to the positve and black goes negitive..??? is this the correct way????

what setting on the multi meter do i use?

it has V with a solid line and dots and has these settings:
200m/2000m/20/200/1000

the V with the ~ has:
750/200

the other one is an A with a solid line and dots:
200u/2000u/20m/200m

and OHMS do i use this?

does the black plug in on the multimeter that says COM is that negitive? and do i plug the positive into the red that has a V and an ohm sign next to it?

i was messing around with all the settings and i could get it to say .5 but when i goto WOT it only goes to 1.8 with 2 different TPS'

Re: Multimeter and TPS

Basically what you're going to want to do it put the black lead on ground, and the positive lead on the middle wire on the TPS connector.

Set the meter to Volts DC (solid line with dots). I'm not sure on what range, it's been a while since I've used one like that. I think you're supposed to use the first one higher than what you're measuring so I guess that would be 20V.

When you finally start getting a reading, turn the sensor until you get .54V (or 540mV).

That sounds like the right spots for the leads. Like I said though, it's been a while since I've used one like that.

Re: Multimeter and TPS

i figured it out... i didnt have a 3rd jumper wire connected to the 5v connection..

as soon as i hooked it up i got a voltage reading..

0.56 at idle
4.97 as WOT

that right?
