Where do i go from here?

Okay ive been following alot of what 2.8rs, firstfirebird, and six_shooter has to say about alot of tuning and parts, oh and daves12secv6 he inspired me to go turbo. Well my question is after seven years of waiting my car starts. I have minor troubles but im working it all out. I guess what im saying is where do i go from here? My car is a stock 3.1L v6 automatic 92 Camaro and im thinking of 3400 heads (which is what everyone seems to recommend as far as heads go) but i need to know how to make them strong and from which car would be best,(i read about vette springs and retainers) because i plan on big power with a turbo roughly about 400hp, if i make more than 400hp even better. Also i read the camaro tech data on the home page, but it doesnt state what kind of tranny i have or other technical stuff if anyone knows please let me know.

Re: Where do i go from here?

A good start is to get a 3.4 out of a 4th gen Camaro (93-95). Get the PCM and wiring. They alreadys have the DIS igntion. With the DIS the 3400 parts are ready to go. Not to mention that the extra cubes don't hurt.

DIS stand for distributor-less ignition system or digital ignition system. Basically as I understand it is that with the 3x00 intakes you can't run a distributor b/c the intake is in the way. DIS does not have a dizzy so the intake will work. Wait for F_F to come in here, he know all of the details.

Re: Where do i go from here?

Look in the tech articles at the main homepage for year and tranny specifiv gearing. If your car is an auto then its a 700R4.

Then the 3400 heads it is, im going to port n polish them, but what kind of internals (i.e. lifters, rockers, camrods) would you recommend and should i leave the stock valves alone?(i do plan on turboing so along the lines of a turbo spec)

There's a ton of info on this topic over at fullthrottlev6.com and 60degreev6.com. Everyone that you mentioned is pretty active there, and there's a ton of information relating specifically to the 60* engines on both sites.

Multi Port Fuel Injection. Its the fuel injection method our engines use.

Re: Where do i go from here?

Okay this is a long shot, but... i heard that 3500 G6 heads will work or 99-04 heads from a grand am would be best and their aluminum can this really fit? Let me know or else ill just go with 4th gen camaro heads.

I'm not, I was banned from 60degree, for speaking my mind, and don't agree with the rules (and how they change at the will by the moderators) on FTV6.

Anywhooo...

I do agree about starting with a 3.4 from a '93 to '95 F-body. It has provisions for the crank position sensor, making the trigger for the DIS easy. I had to create an external CPS wheel and trigger when I used my 2.8L block. I will be using this wheel (with a new sensor mount) on the 3500 I will be installing.

I would not recommend using the PCM from a 3.4 however. It's not supported in the aftermarket for tuning. There were a few people working on hacks years ago, but haven't seen anything done about it, so you're basically stuck with stock programming.
A better option would be to use a 7730, and FWD code from a 3.1 (Cavalier, Beretta, and similar), that has been tuned for a 3400 or hybrid. Many guys in the J-body community have done this.

All generation II and III 660 heads are aluminium, this includes the 3400 heads you asked about. Only gen I heads iron. The generations are in reference to the engine generations, not body generations.

You will need the larger bore of the 3.4 to use the 3500 heads. The gasket needed for the smaller bore of the 2.8/3.1 will not work with the 3500 combustion chamber.
