underbody rust prevention

hey, i've just read a post about someone who didn't pass some safety check in PA because of rust. I'm not worried about any checks like that out here (california), nor do I have any noticeable rust, but I'd like some suggestions for what I can do to prevent rust like that. I'm planning on taking me and my girl snowboarding this winter up at Mammoth Mountain, and I don't want all the snow and slush eating away at my "baby" lol. Maybe some aerosols or paints? Or maybe a professional job? I'm thinking some sort of clear-coat or something.

Re: underbody rust prevention

I live in Wisconsin and every year before the snow flies I touch up the bottom of my '84 T/A with some spray can rubberized undercoating available from the usual parts stores. So far its kept the rust away underneath the car for the nine years I've had it.

If they aren't salting the roads in the mountains I wouldn't worry about any rust. Its not going to be any worse than when the car is driven in the rain. If you have never driven a RWD car in the snow before I would suggest picking up a few sand bags from Home Depot and put them in the trunk for weight.

all right, thanks, I'll try that, and yes they do salt the roads up there, lol I also might consider the sandbag idea, it's been a while, (we usually use chains and are fine)
