EGR questions

Ok, i have a 1984 Firebird with the v6 carb, how difficult is it to remove the EGR valve. This summer it was making the car run like crap so i unpluged the vac hose from it. It seems like it has lost power and fuel economy comparing to when it was working good. Its not stuck open but seems difficult to move the diphram. Is there anyway to clean this? Or can some of you pros out there give me some tips

Thanks, Bo
