ruptured MPFI FP regulator ?

can these FP regulators rupture ?

if so then what are causes ?

i assume these regulators are detachable from the fuel rail so they can be replaced ?

fuel is coming out of the vacuum hose from the TB unit and to the regulator, even with the key off and everything

causing raw fuel to soak into the air cleaner

and idle to hunt around all over the place and sometimes drop down and die

and be hard to start

i removed the hose and plugged it all off and it runs like brand new now

it tok forever to finally figure out what the hell was the problem

i was down to a vacuum leak, or didnt know, beyond that, after replacing the fuel pump and the MAF and cleaning the EGR out. and the IAC motor

all to no avail.

how do these regulators work ?

how much pressure when ruptured/no vacuum source?

i need to learn what i can on how these work and how they fail like this

also are they expensive ?

this is the first time i have ever seen one fail, of all the billions of vehicles i have repaired, and all therse years

hmm

thanks

Don't have any info on technical stuff about it, but Advance Auto Parts has a GP Sorensen unit for $35.

Re: ruptured MPFI FP regulator ?

35? wow

what application did you look it up for?
this is an '87 2.8/3.1

i looked at advance and all were at least 90 some bucks each

and at autozone it only shows me this one:

Product Part No. Price

Gp-Sorensen / Fuel Injector Pressure Regulator
Warranty - 1 YR 800-218 $97.99

Note:
O.E.M. #17087274, 17087275, 17090062, 17090063, 17090064, 17090065, 17111796, 17111882, 17111883, 17112139, 17112144, 17112163, 17112279

http://www.autozone.com/R,APP297411/...ductDetail.htm

it could very well be weeks before he will be able to get one
due to recent circumstances

hopefully it can run this long without the regulator?

he said it was using alot more fuel than usual, so i have to assume that with it non functional that the pressure must be higher ??

no ?
thanks!

Re: ruptured MPFI FP regulator ?

I replaced my FPR a couple of months ago and it was $35 brand new from Advanced Discount. Your spring may be wore out allowing for more pressure and fuel than necessary.

what would cause the tons of raw fuel pouring out of the vacuum hose to it ?

this car has 80k on it BTW

also would a front wheel drive 2.8 one interchange close enough to run on a rear wheel drive one ? of the same years ?

today it quit starting up for him

but he has the fuel level right on dead empty

however there is fuel pressure in the rail

unlike before when we replaced the fuel pump and didnt know about the regulator being a problem and dumping fuel into the TB unit

i havent heard from him since he got off work and i presume put gas in it and it fired up, or he would have called me or messaged me by now

i had to fix my regulator vacuum hose plug off job better and with clamps today because the pressure coming out of the regulator hose was leaking lots of fuel :O

thanks!

Re: ruptured MPFI FP regulator ?

Its just a guess but the FPR may have developed some sort of tear in it. The part that bolts it down is some sort of coated fabric to be flexible. That is just a wild guess though. Just buy a new one and see what happens.

Re: ruptured MPFI FP regulator ?

i hate to replace it only for it to happen again

where can i find out which ones interchange with which ?

sure is difficult to find out any info about these regulators hmm i presumed that i might be able to find out some good info about these but t doesnt seem that many ppl know much about them

i cant even find out how they work, let alone anything else

i need to know if he is running high pressure or low pressure with it not connected

does anyone know who or where i can find out what i need to know about these/this from ??

thanks!

Re: ruptured MPFI FP regulator ?

The best thing to do is to get one in your hands at the store and look at it.

Disconnected, the FP is around 43 PSI, may be lower due to tear in diaphragm.

You need special Torx security bits to remove the screws, T20 or 25 should work.
