I just talked to my local JY and they have a 3.1 in a bird that is of unknown status(running or shot). It has all the serpentine stuff still on it plus all the accessories they run. he said he would include anything bolted to the motor except the trans for $150 he said i could have the PS gear as well for an extra $50.

Is this worth my time? im needing a new oil pan (dented mine) the ps pump on my car is whining a bit and the ps gear pops from time to time. My oil pump sounds like its trying to grind rocks, and the motor nocks when hot.

so even if the motor itself is bad is it an ok deal for the rest of the stuff included?

oh and what would i be looking at to rebuild this motor. IE how much, difficulty, etc? cause barring machine work i think i could do it and i want to get something else here for when the one in the car now blows.

 

Check the mileage first. If it's low crank it over by hand with a wrench on the crank pulley bolt. If everything feels smooth and it has good compression (feels like pushing against a spring) it's probably in decent shape. Take out a sp plug and look into the cylinder. Any rust? Oil? Water? If it's anything but dry and a little sooty leave it alone. How do they know the accesories are good?

 

Not to take over your thread but Xplane, I have all the stuff you need. I'm parting my v6 camaro out. All the parts have 101,000miles on them. Oil pan is good, p/s pump is great, and oil pump should be straight. I could get some pics for you if you were interested and I could definatly beat $150. The only thing is for whatever you need, It has to be shipped as i'm in Milwaukee, WI.
