What part is this?

What part is this?
I know this is tied in with the cooling system, either this part is leaking or the hoses to it and im curious to what exactly its called. Damn car keeps overheating.

Where the other plastic outlets connect to the main shaft is prone to cracking... if you think you're losing coolant, that's a good place to check. Whole part is $15, if I remember right.

The heater core bypass can be eliminated (pictured part). It causes coolant to NOT flow through the heater core while the heat is off via a vacuum "switch". Since your HVAC closes the door in front of the core during A/C operation or heater "off", you don't need the bypass if the door is functioning properly.
