3.4 question

I would absolutley love to put a v8 in my car but with gas prices the way they are and i love to drive my car when im home on the weekends i think it would be a bad idea. Can anyone give me a guess on what power could be expected with a 3.4 ported heads, ported upper and lower intake, cam and maybe 1.6 rockers, headers and full exhaust?

Re: 3.4 question

210hp. just a guess, they are strangled. from what i can gather from these guys here - i havnt started my build yet - you need to choose your parts carefully and decide if you want hp or torque. you cant have both- its not a v8!! these motors are naturally torquey and can be made to pull like a train, need to speak to firstfirebird and grimmcs and a few others on the recomended cam, thel point you in the right direction. have fun !
ps what do you pay for gas? im at 1.10gbp per litre, thats about $9.50 a gallon
just trying to make you feel beter lol

Re: 3.4 question

185-200.

3.4 is 160hp..stock.
These motors dont gain near as much as the v8 does from headers.
1.6 rockers only gain 2-3hp at peak.
porting will depend on the work
cam will depend on the cam.

I had 3.4, mtc-5 cam, headers, polished heads/intake. It was quite an improvement over the stock 3.1... but not even close to the 240hp GTP I have.

Re: 3.4 question

It will struggle to break the 200hp mark with the stock heads/induction. You can pull tons of torq out of the stock induction- more than you'd expect. But like zs&tas said it needs to be built (esp. a well matched cam) to do what you want. Can't just throw an edelbrock intake and a cam in and expect gains like you would with a v8.
