No Gas Cap Pressure, & Fuel Vapor Odor

when i release my gas cap i get zero pressure there's suppose to be 1 psi worth, i got nothing, theres no leaks, new fuel filter, the ventilator valve on the tank is good is doesnt open with mouth pressure but does with a flathead guessing it's suppose to be like that it's not to hard to push on either, the filler neck is not leaking i removed the shroud drove it down to the gas station checked for leaks while pumping (down the street flat road) no leaks in the lines...im thinking the EECS System is doing it's job how can i test or tell if this is the case? the hoses running to the EGR solinoid look all nasty think i should change them asap, but i didnt spot any holes, im lost on this one. and losing my MPG as we'll 10-13 MPG about guess my fuel is evaporating.

Wow, youre really Hell bent on not taking into account that you do have a leak somewhere, arent you?

So youre saying you are losing pressure somewhere? You say that you should have pressure under the cap...I agree... but you have none. With no leak, where is the pressure going? Plain and simple, you have a vapor/liquid leak somewhere. If it is vapor it could be hard to find, because it could be the size of a pin hole. It could be a liquid leak as well, it could just be in a place that it wont drip on the ground, i.e. top of the tank. I dont know where it is, but if you can smell gas outside your car, the gas (liquid/vapor) is leaking out of your fuel system. The reason why the fuel system is sealed by the gas cap is to keep the flammable vapors contained.
Case closed. No need to have multiple threads about the same thing.

On to the EGR hose. Are you talking about the one that goes from the EGR to the intake? Eather way, the EGR deals with exhaust. And as long as the hose is still solid, the only to change it is for looks. Having a nasty hose wont hurt anything.

im convinced that the smell is coming from ZERO fuel vapors being pushed into my enigine from the charcoal canister, im getting crappy milage and smells at the gas tank, so if im getting zero vacuum that = crappy milage because im not recycling my fuel vapors and a backlash at the tank valve right?

Re: No Gas Cap Pressure, & Fuel Vapor Odor

I have a similar Gas Cap problem...My car also smells like gas a lot...I can smell it mostly on the back of the car....The other day right after I turned the car off...I was trying to smell where it was coming from...and I heard a noise from gas cap....like are pressure was too strong and air was escaping through the gas cap....I took it off and all the pressure scaped out

Should I just buying a new gas cap to fix this problem?? if not....What is causing the excess pressure?

I am also having starting problems and I am thinking its linking to a bad gas cap and not enough pressure in tank due to it.

Please help out with any ideas....Buying new gas cap tomorrow
