i went to the junk yard and got a posi carrier from and 87 iroc with 2.73 gears.my ? will that carrier fit in my v6 rear end and still keep the origanal 3.42 ring and pinion gears?

Your 3.42's should bolt right onto it as I believe it is still al 3-series carrier. You will have to reset your backlash and preload on the bearings though.
