backfiring when engine cold???

hi i have a 1987 Pontiac firebird with a v6 auto
and my question is when i start my car for the first time for the day my car has this little series of pops in my engine sounds kind of like a backfire but there small pops but when my engine heats up to normal my backfiring stops.
but its only as soon as the car starts and the first or second time i hit the accelerator pedal
i think maybe its the spark plugs i put in
they are ac delcos rapidfire platinums but im still not sure???
plz help
