ive found a cheap 91' 4.3 manual blazer. i know itl be some work but do you think itl make a nice unit, figure once stripped and cammed up itl be 250horses and a bucket of torque too.

does anybody know the layout of the transfer box ? can i use the box from the blazer in the bird ? if not ill make an adapter for the t5

Is the Blazer 2WD or 4WD? I highly doubt you can put any transfer case in a F-body, but if it is the 2WD you might be able to use the tranny. If it is a 4WD, I would look into a V8 tranny from 3rd Gen. If you use your T5, there is a good chance that it wont last...although if built right a T5 should be ok. There was a reason that they put the stock 700r4 behind the 350 TPI...

This swap has been talked about before...althought I dont think its ever been done. Youre traveling into uncharted waters. Here is a link I found real quick..... LINK

That was a myth that the T5 couldn't handle the power and pure speculation by people at the time the cars were new. I believe it was the bean counters influence here, nothing more. I bet if you serach on this site you will find the real reason, and it also wasn't because the F-body would be faster than the 'vette either, I've heard that one too.

I would not use a 4.3, they always feel laboured, and require the same amount of work as a SBC, which is what I would install if I was thinking about a 4.3.

No the transfer case can't be used in an F-body.

Making an adaptor for the 4.3/SBC to mate to your small pattern tranny is a waste of time, when you can easily get a SBC pattern tranny an drop it in. You will just need to make sure it is from an F-body due to the torque arm, or buy/make a torque arm mount, for retro fitting another tranny.

yeh i did search, but as you say there isnt alot about it. making the adapter is much easier than me trying to find the right box - bit limited over the pond !

The 4.3's are basically a 350 w/ 2 cylinders lopped off. GM used them to fill a displacement gap between the v8's and the v6's and is really just a workhorse engine. They labor to heave blazers and s10's around and are not really a performance upgrade in my mind.

If its an LB4/Turbo, hurry up and slap that baby in!!!

There is also a Tbi 4.3, cpi 4.3 and vortec 4.3. Lots of variations.

I thought about trying it if I ever had money and a spare car.

I honestly dont think it would be that hard to do. Mostly wiring. And if its a tbi....You could likely use the v8 tbi wire harness with possible re-pin. Then just edit the prom chip.

I didnt know that was just a myth. Ive heard that a bunch of time form different people, so I figured it was true. I stand corrected.

Funny thing is my brother just bought an old S-10 with the 4.3 in it...Ive been trying to get him to build it into the Syclone engine...and when I say "get him to", I mean get him to say that I can

My buddy's got a 4.3 Vortec in a chevy singlecab longbed work truck. Its lowered 3 inches. He's got the 700r4 in it, with a shift-kit. (don't know which one)

He can be cruising at 80, smash the gas, drop it into 2nd or 3rd and roast both tires off the back. Pretty impressive at 80mph.

For all stock motor, it does damn good...

Thats also in a truck, the rearend is so damn light that it is easy to loose traction. Thats one part of it but the Vortec 4.3s are pretty good motors. I wouldn't mind having an S-10 with a Vortec in it.
