Re: testing egr for failure??
could be as simple as a loose vacuum hose.. id check those. or the ports could be blocked with carbon buildup.

2.8 has the non digital egr, which even if the valve itself is bad its a cheap fix
9 out of 10 times its the soilinoid that is bad good luck finding one of those cheap,

Re: testing egr for failure??
i checked the vacuum lines and one of them is not connected to anything but im not sure where it goes...its not a line comming straight from the egr its a line that comes off the thermal vacuum switch but not the one connected to the vacuum port or back to the egr...its another one that is bent back to go somewhere under and behind the egr...i checked the diaphram with car off and it does move up when i push it up, and comes back down by itself...but another funny thing is when i run the car for little while, then shut it off, the egr valve itself makes a tinging noise over and over even with car off?????...could that be the solenoid???
Re: testing egr for failure??
I was wondering where to get gaskets and such for a 1992 with the digital EGR? I have gone to all of the auto parts places, and when I ask for the gaskets to fix the EGR, they look at me like I just orderd a crap sandwich.
Is the dealer the only option for getting these? Mine has started leaking and will need to be repaired soon.

Oh, and if you don't like that idea, ask the parts store for an EGR gasket for a 1993 Beretta, Grand Prix, Lumina, or Regal with the VIN T engine.
:edit: Did some searching, and found your gaskets. Go to the auto parts store and ask for FelPro gaskets 70208 and 70397... If you can't get them at the store, order them on partsamerica.com and have them shipped to your house.

That vac line you have that is disconnected from everything gets plugged into that box that has the 4-wire connector on it. Hopefully, now, when you plug that in, your valve will work, instead of just sucking air into the engine and setting a trouble code. Oh, and that tinging is normal, it's just the hot metal parts of the exhaust cooling off when you shut her down.
