Timing issue need help

I have replaced the entire ignition and did a full top end job.

ported intake
ported heads
ported TB
new plugs
new wires
new coil
new module
new cap and rotor
3.4 swap

The timing has been set at the crank and the distributor and I am getting back fire through the TB and the exhaust. I have followed the directions given a million times on the search and still it will not start. I was thinking it could be a couple bad injectors but I was wondering if it could be anything else. My head hurts trying to figure it out because I have been getting spark and I get fuel but no running.

Re: Timing issue need help

check the oil pressure sending unit. not enough oil pressure on cranking the car will not start. for the injectors use a multimeter and check the ohms on each injector should be about 16 ohms to be good. 12 or lower is bad if i remember correctly.

Re: Timing issue need help

Mine backfired through the intake when ever my o2 sensor went bad. I wound up going with a universal heated o2.

Re: Timing issue need help

Try switching the firing order around, with the #1 wire where the #4 wire is. It will probably run then. Sounds like you have the dist timed to where the #4 cyl is actually in firing position instead of #1, aka 180* out of time... If this doesn't work, then you will have to turn the dizzy until your engine runs, marching the wires around the cap as you go.

:edit: This is going to sound rather dumb, but I have to say it. Just because the crank and the dizzy are on time doesn't mean that the cam is... Since the cam is actually what determines valve and ignition timing, it has to be in line as well (which is why, when I am rebuilding an engine, I make sure that I leave the #1 valve cover off to ensure I'm on TDC #1). If not, you are up a creek without a paddle.

Re: Timing issue need help

If you are truly set at TDC and have the distributor pointing in the direction of #1 cylinder, it should fire right up!! I would think even if various sensors are not working properly, you will get error codes, but the enging should run. Number one cause of not firing IIRC is not having the plug wires placed properly.
