Gage cluster problem...Advise needed

I am thinking about buying a 89 camaro RS...the problem witht the car is that the speedometer on the car its not working...I dont know how big of a problem that is and dont know how fixable it is...
Maybe gage cluster is broken or something.... is not wired right or something on the engine is messed up...Please help me out with some advise...

The fuel meter seems to be working and the temp gage seems to be working, I dont thing the milage on it is right...because It not rotating either...

The car seems to run great though when i test drove it...pretty clean engine and "reads" 80K miles (but like i said ...the thing isnt working so i am sure its more

Don't know if it's the VSS... I don't think the 89's had them (was it 89 or 90 that was the changeover year?). What you can do to make sure whether you have a VSS or not is to look at the tail of the trans and see if you have either a big fat cable coming out of the housing on the driver's side or a simple 2 wire connector. If it's got a cable, then either the cable's snapped or one of the sockets is damaged. If it's got the VSS, good luck. It could be the VSS that's bad, or it could be something between there and the speedo head... Broken wire, bad buffer box, bad electronics in the speedometer itself...

when I test drove it...the odometer didnt rotate at all...so I know its not working...the speedometer stayed at 0 the whole time...
the fuel level was right at the middle (hard to tell if its working or not...same for the temp level
The one thing that was working for sure was (the one that goes from 0-8 or 0-6) dont know the name for it
