V6 Potential

How do you guys feel about the v6 as far as it's potential? Like do you guys think it is worth the money to add performance to the v6 or would it just be better to drop in a v8?

Re: V6 Potential

its not worth the money for the power you get, we all allways say if we wanted power we would have got a v8 when the v8 guys rip into us and our v6 tuning.
theres a few reasons behind keeping the v6 - weight & weight distribution is one major one, and prolly my main reason living in tight twisty england !
Mpg is another, others see it as a challenge to get power from them - they are race proven blocks and have the ability to rev like a r icer although it could be alot of work theres many more reasons too but in the end youl figure it out yourself.
some people bought a 'pretty' car then realized it was dog slow, i like the idea of building up the 6 to beat a stock 8 just to brag :-)
easiest chepest route is turbo - search the forum
have fun :-)

Fastest V6 Fbody I know of made it to the 8's in the 1/4 mile before he started parting out.

Re: V6 Potential

You can build a v6 inexpensively and still get decent results from it. I built mine for ~$1200 and should be getting 300hp/300tq if I can ever install it. You just need to be frugal, i.e. use more oem parts.

Re: V6 Potential

you must be turboing bl85c? The stcok 3.1s make a little over 140 hp, and thats then their brand new running at their peak.

Re: V6 Potential

The FWD aluminum heads seem to really love high compression and we have some FWD guys running as much as 12.6:1 on pump gas.

We need one of them (or the 3.4/3500 Fbodies) to get their car on a dyno. I recently sold a top end to someone with a 94 Camaro, he also has a stock LT1 Z28, and the 3.4 is actually faster.

Tune, tune, tune. Anybody wanting some real power out of your V6, start with learning how to manage the fuel and spark of your engine.

Re: V6 Potential

Compression's only 9.5. It's just well balanced. Moderate compression, moderate rpm (for a v6) @ 6500, good flowing fwd heads and a top secret cam.

Re: V6 Potential

Is it misfiring or do you think they need a cleaning?
