Could this be injectors??

My step-dad and I have been trying to weed out the problem with my car for a little over a month and so far with no luck...

He was brainstorming and thought hey maybe the injectors are bad.

What happens is I can go start the car, and it will idle real high, If I shut it off and restart a few times the idle goes down. I can drive the car for a while and it drives but has very bad throttle resoponse.(If I give it any more that like 1/2 throttle it bogs, it doesnt die but I doesnt go)

also fouls plugs really fast

When I shut the car off I can't restart it for a while...

The way we see it is if the injectors were leaking, then when I shut the car off it wouldn't hold the fuel pressure and would leak down and flood the engine...

this also explains the high idle when it starts if the fuel is sittin in there from a while ago, and also the reason for the plugs fouling fast

it also explains the bad throttle responce cause if they leak then the fuel is just falling in the instead of being sprayed.

what do you guys think?

Re: Could this be injectors??

Fuel pressure regulator would be a good starting point, along with the return system. Fuel pressure seems a little high there. What color are the fouled plugs? If they are dry black (not wet black... that's oil fouling), then you're getting too much fuel.
Are you throwing any codes? It's possible your injectors are leaking, but the only way to find out is to pop the rail out of place and physically WATCH the injectors over a half-hour period for any drips. Have you replaced any injectors at all? If so, are the part numbers the same?
Also, go somewhere and have them clean your injectors... It's not cheap, but if they actually do it right, it's worth it. You could have some debris in there that is keeping the actuators from seating properly and clogging the nozzles.

Re: Could this be injectors??

plugs foul dry black and the fuel pump and filter are brand new just fyi. I havent messed with the injectors at all yet not even glanced at them.

and idk bout the codes cause the service engine light wasnt on till we got to messing round with the TPS and IAC, and also because our diagnostic machine won't hook up the the connector on the camaro, and it hasnt been drivable to go to somewhere to have it tested.

Re: Could this be injectors??

What I did when I changed injectors is I had a friend energize the fuel pump and I looked at each injector. With the rail empty, garage quiet, and a bright light, you might see a leak or hear pressure leaking. I had a bad o ring and heard the hiss. Also, pull off the vaccum line to regulator and smell it. If it smells like fuel, regulator has a hole somewhere.

man all I have to get is a gauge...just measure the pressure at rail, then if it goes down unhook the return line and if it holds its the regulator, and if not its the injectors

Re: Could this be injectors??

When you pressure test, you don't unhook anything. You clamp off the supply and return hoses with hose clamp pliers (special pliers made for cutting off flow in hoses) or highly padded vice-grips, one at a time. If you clamp off the pressure line first and the pressure holds, either you have a line leak or the valve in the fuel pump that is supposed to hold the pressure is leaking. If you clamp off the return line and the pressure holds, your pressure regulator is bad (I think, anyways, if I'm wrong, could someone correct me? ). If you clamp off BOTH and the pressure still drops, your injectors are leaking.

Get a mechanic's stethiscope and listen to each injector. One's probably stuck open.

Re: Could this be injectors??

ok so I went out and tried to clean out my plugs just enough to get it fire today(it wouldn't) but anyways I happened to take a flashlight and look at where the injectors are...there is like fur or something in there that kinda looks like there might have been rats in there or something and maybe one wanted to do some chewing on a couple wires...ugh
