Dead fuel pump
Haven't been on here for a while since the Camaro has been dead. I though that it was the fuel pump, made sense as to what the car was doing (weak, no pickup). Got a new pump and it has to be something else besides the pump itself. I checked for power at the pump harness and I'm getting power, but the pump won't kick on. Anyone have any ideas so I can get this thing running and sold? 89 Camaro 2.8.

Re: Dead fuel pump
Does it still start after cranking over a few times?
The back up switch should turn it on once you hit 7psi of oil pressure.
Mine was like that for years, only the back up worked.
Its better for the engine anyways to build oil pressure then start.
Tell folks you did that on purpose so it last allot longer.

Re: Dead fuel pump
The pump is out of the car now, but it wouldn't want to start at all. The pump doesn't even kick on at all.

Re: Dead fuel pump
Not sure if I got it entirely, but if the pump doesn't even power on, could it be the fuse or the relay? If the new pump was installed, you should be able to measure pressure at the Shraeder Valve. If there is fuel, then the problem is in the ignition system.

There is power at the harness for the pump but even with a new pump it is not kicking on. You an always hear the pump prime and nothing happens.

Re: Dead fuel pump
Okay, the problem suggests that the ECM is not getting a reference pulse from the distributor in order to keep the fuel pump running. If there is no reference signal, the ECM shuts off the pump after 2 seconds.
So, check the Ignition module or a connection to the modeule that has gounded. Also, you might want to check to see if you have a faulty ECM.
If all of that is okay, perhaps you have a clogged fuel filter or faulty fuel pressure regulator.

Re: Dead fuel pump
Any other ideas? The pump is good, the power with the key in the on position and with the car cranking, its there. Everything looks good, I'm clueless.

Re: Dead fuel pump
probably the bulk head connector in the back for it. The wires run through the metal floor with a connector. I had to wire around mine.

Re: Dead fuel pump
This is somewhere in the wiring. Before I waste a lot of time, where are the grounds for the fuel pump wiring. I'll be looking at everything since I finally have some spare time from school.
