Found a V6,,broken flywheel need some input.
Hey guys im searching for a thid gen and found a v6 that has a broken flywheel. Overall the car is in extremly good condition, no rust, interior has just been redone and it has american racing rims and a very nice bodykit (not a cheapy one). Paint is decent but id probably redo it because the quarter panel has a dent on the right side and paint is peeled in the front prety bad. I'm a body guy so i have my resources to get that done but the thing is i hae an extremly limited amount of money. This will be a first car. My first question is how much would it be to replace the flywheel? I know its a huge job and im also worried about what other damage that could of happend because it normally takes alot for a flywheel to break.
He told me he drove into a ditch and that happend. If its too much money to deal with id consider parting it out and i estimated i could make about $2200 if i did it selling the parts cheap. He wants 1500. If i got it id try to get the flywheel fixed just so i can drive it for the time being then eventually throw in a 350 bbut if its too much of a hassle for me id do the parting out.
So if you were in my position, with a very limited amount of money, what would you do? Save your money up and buy something nicer that runs or jump on this? As i said this is almost a steal. If anyone is interested in this car its located near paducah kentucky and id be happy to give you the guys number just so i can get this car off my mind haha. Thanks!

is it a stick or auto car?? lots of ppl refer to the flexplate in an auto car as a flywheel
ive broken auto flexplates before and they arent expspensive i think i was paying 60$'s for mine from advance auto
a manual trans flywheel will be more though

What year is it? I got a 3.4 flywheel that should work for the internally balanced 2.8/3.1s. Its in good shape, used but it will last you till you do the V8 swap.

Just my 2-cents worth, this could be an expensive fix. It is possible that the engine crankshaft is tweaked (slightly bent) and that there is also damage to the torque convertor and/or transmission.
At the same time I think $1500 may be on the high side for the car. Just IMHO.
This is the type of car that someone should use when having a new drivetrain to install. Basically a roller in decent enough condition that it is worth the effort to change out the engine and trans.
RBob.

he's right, 1500 is quite expensive, especially for whats wrong. replacing a flywheel isn't extremely difficult, but its not a beginner's task.
Re: Found a V6,,broken flywheel need some input.
You guys really think 1500 is high? I work in an autobody shop and the car itself could easily be turned into a show car with a couple minor tweaks (and of course the engine troubles) I think if i had a good 3 grand i could get this car looking new, including the fix to the engine. I'm a bit new to the wheeling and dealing with muscle cars, i just didnt think the value would sink that far because i know if he had it fixed he could get atleast $2500 with the minor body problems because alot has been replaced and the defects are limited and very very fixable. The car is a 1983 by the way, no t-tops.

well, we just want you to know, many of us have seen these cars go for next to nothing. If you think its worth the price though, don't let us stop you. Sounds like its in very good condition, keep in mind we haven't seen the car for ourselves. Just check for underbody rust before investing.
