1994 3.4l v6 to 1992 305 engine swap
I am working through the specifics of doing this swap and would like to know what would really be involved in doing it. Now I know the 305 has a bad rep. but remember it has a better bore/stroke ratio than the 454.(plus I'm only looking for a little more power) what would I need to do about the computer (after all the v8 is a totally different animal) if anything. I know the motor mounts would need to be exchanged, but what about the transmission? Because isn't the 305 directly compatible with the 4l60e tranny? (my other reason for choosing the 305
). Would I have to get an engine computer from a similar car (eg a 1992 f-body) or could I have mine reprogrammed. I know the injection systems are different but im looking to go carburated anyway, but would like if at all possible, to keep it a fuel injection. By the way the engine block is not out of a junker ( I'm actually good friends with its owner) it runs but has never been rebuilt, im just looking to bore it to 327 or somewhere in that neighborhood
.
let me know what i need to do, I figured if I was goingto go somewhere for help it might as well be someone who knows a thing or two about third gen engines

Definitely check the engine swap section of the board.
In short, you're looking at *** pain. Computer wont work, you'll need one from a 305. If you go carb you can toss the whole thing.
Tranny wont work. You'll need one from a v8 car.
Is this going into a 4th gen?
If so, a 305 is just about your worst possible choice....

That bad huh? I thought the 700r4 and 4l60e had the same bellhousing pattern. thanks for saving me the headache, i went and added it up i would be spending around $600 just to get it running to my specs ( higher than GM's for sure ) and thats before the ecm or any of the electronics. does anyone know where i could find an 1994 lt1 for it in the Easley SC area? say in the $500 range

the v6 version uses a small bellhousing pattern, it wont bolt to a v8
i take it this is going in a 4thgen?
ur best bet would be a boneyard for the lt1 motor
