V6 Distributor

Is the distributor on the V6 a 2 piece unit ? The horizontal metal body that the esc or brain are mounted to on my dizzy wiggles seperate from the dizzy shaft itself with alot of play. I havent pulled the unit yet so I'm not sure how the horizontal metal body is attached to the shaft. I'm hoping its not a weld or something that broke.

Anybody have any info on that by chance ?

Re: V6 Distributor

Anybody?

I guess it would make more sense if I said the flat metal plate that the dizzy cap screws into is the one that is giving me issues with 1/8th inch movement in all directions I'm not able to see what holds that plate to the shaft housing until I pull so I'm hoping someone has taken one apart and can suggest what would cause that movement.

Re: V6 Distributor

Sounds like it's time for a new dizzy to me as the plate is supposed to be welded to the part that extends into the rear of the engine block, not to the shaft...

Along those lines, does anyone know of a dizzy out there that has a longer shaft? I seem to recall hearing about someone using a longer dizzy with the 3x00 upper end setup, and I was wondering what vehicle it came from.

At one point in time someone had cut and made one longer...but it messed with the UIM. Plus I believe that it would only work with the less desirable small port 3100, as the runners on the large port 3100/3400 are much larger and you would need to close off the last runner...plus, either way, you would still have the fuel rail all kinds of in the way.

Re: V6 Distributor

Got it pulled out today and looks like the plate is pressed onto the shaft housing and it was wore out enough to offset the timing about 8 degree's. Luckily it was under warranty so another unit is back in place that looks alot more structurely sound. Never seen one do that before

Thanks for the reply's
