First Steps in Bringing a Car Back to Life
First Steps in Bringing a Car Back to Life
I have owned a 92 V-6 for around 7 years. When I put it in the garage around 3 years ago it seemed to have an intermittent electric problems (sometimes would start sometimes acted as if the power didn't exist). It seemed to have transmission issues. The engine seemingly was in decent shape.
I finally have some free time and with better weather around the corner I was looking to get it out and start working on it to get it back up to drivable condition. Being that it has been so long since it was probably even started, what should be my first steps in bringing this car back to life so I don't do more harm than good?
Thanks,

1. Full tune up, search for the famous TomP tune up.
2. Replace your brake rotors and possibly the rear drums (inspect the drums first, of course). Trust me, with the car having sat for so long, this will only be the beginning of things that you'll have to replace due to corrosion (you won't be able to cut the rotors as the rust will have eaten beyond what can be safely removed from the braking surfaces). You'll probably want to invest in a new battery as well.
3. Check both your VATS system and your Neutral Start Switch located on the shifter assembly (if you have a 700R4 auto), otherwise have your starter tested.
