3.1 NO SPARK
i have a 90 3.1 with 206000 miles on it. i was driving down the road when all of the sudden my car just shuts off. i can hear the fuel pump and the engine will turn, but after hooking up a timing light i see that there is no spark. i tested the ignition control moduel and the pick up coil, and i also have power from the ingition switch. i also replaced the ingnition coil. the wires, plugs, cap, and rotor are fairly new, so i am confused as to what it might be. any input would be greatly appretiated. thanks

Re: 3.1 NO SPARK
Worst case scenario might be your timing chain. Mine had about the same mileage on it when the chain broke - more like the nylon teeth wore off the gears and the chain fell off. I was idling in the driveway when the car died and wouldn't restart, engine would turn but not fire up. Easy check is to pull the distributor cap and turn the engine over, if the rotor doesn't turn, the camshaft (driven by the timing chain) isn't turning.

Re: 3.1 NO SPARK
You forgot one thing in your replace-it list. Your ignition module is probably dead, and that is why you don't have any spark.
The timing chain could be at fault, but I seriously doubt it. With the cap off, have someone crank the engine. If the rotor doesn't spin, well, the chain broke.
:edit: Does the engine sound any different than normal when you crank it, like sort of a high-pitched whine? That's another indicator of not having any compression due to a bad timing set. 206K means it's time for a new one (about every 100-150K is the norm to replace it).

Re: 3.1 NO SPARK
did you replace the coil before or after the car shut off? That is classic, textbook coil failure you describe. I've had a brand new hypertech coil go up in one month.
