Yeah, magnaflow catback's the most popular it seems. That's what I'd go with.

I have a flowmaster thats been on there for 7 years now and People mistake it for an 8 all the time. I dont think they make the same one anymore though. I'll try and get a sound bite but it will be a while. My car is nowhere near me and I just had sugery so Im down for atleast another week.

I dont know much about the series, how do you find out what type you have? My flowmaster was on mine when I bought it so I have no idea whats on there. I do know I had another buddy with a 91 camaro v6 and he bought a flow but it sounded like crap compared to mine and even he admitted it.

I need to get a clip from my old Fiero since it didn't have a cat and had a modified stock muffler with 2.5 in and dual 2 out. At idle it sounded like a pasta rocket but as it got higher in rpm it would get throatier. I will see if I can get the new owner to bring it by soon so I can get a clip.

Gumby - So your saying the cherrybomb with no cat sounds like a V8, interesting...but doesnt that mess with the back pressure? I'm sure all of us would love to hear how that sounds...If you can get a sound clip or anyone here can post it that would be great...
Please man!!!!

I only have a VHS camcorder that could take a vid /sound clip.
Can't figure out how to clear its memory, have unplugged it for a whole day and it wont work. I know cause it still members to skip from 12-14.
The only problem with back presure is to much on these cars.
If yours don't rev out fast and hard to redline, something is wrong.
All I did once is all a simple hunk of pipe for a turn out but it totally killed the higher RPM band, I had to knock a hole in the end of the turn out to get it back revin fast n hard.
Why I don't even use a axle pipe that loops over, I run it straight out to the back, under the axle.

I like my Flowmaster other than somebody before me replaced the cat with a glasspack and it likes to pop on me when I get on it and let off . I would post a sound clip but I have no way of recording it .

I have flowmaster with the tips dumped at the muffler. Sounds great but I'm getting a bit tired of the vibration. I had the rectangle type tips on it before which I like the way they sound so I may put those back on. I never cared much for cherry bombs and flows almost never let you down.

Re: The best mufflers for V6 !!!!!
Popping in your exhaust has nothing to do with your muffler, but your over rich exhaust that is exploding in the muffler. Some muffler just cover that up better but it has nothing to do with what muffler you have.
And if its a stick and your downshifting that will happen as you engine brake sending more then usualy extra fuel into the exhaust system.

Re: The best mufflers for V6 !!!!!
Sorry it's been a while since I've been on this page. Been busy with running to the hospital and my tail light swap and such. I have the clip in my cam, but I have to find the rest of my cam gear before I can transfer it (because I lost the original USB cable that came with the cam and and am stuck using the dock for everything
) I should have it up tomorrow, anyways.
BTW, when I do post, keep in mind that my IAC is rather slow, I have 2 lean injectors, and I still have WAY too many exhaust leaks to be really comfortable. My system is the stock intermediate pipe running into a 2.25" Thrush 24201 muffler that runs into a 90* bend before hitting a 2.5" performance exhaust tip that has about a half-inch trimmed off of the end for use with a 1A Racing resonating tip. And yes, if you can tell, I've painted the out pipes from the muffler with high-temp engine paint to hopefully stave off the rust that killed the last set.
:edit: Also, the reason I have the tip stuck out so far is that I couldn't hear myself think with just the long tip on (without the chrome resonator on the end) and the exhaust dumping under the tail.
And if you didn't like the Flowmaster 40 series (single outlet), you're going to HATE the 80 series (dual outlet, had this with the 2.8 and the 3.1 and hated both). It's got a really annoying almost buzz at highway speeds.
http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/mufflers.html for info on both, scroll down the page. If you DO go 80 series, keep in mind that the inlet is offset from both outlets and should be towards the front of the car in case you need to remove something. The entire muffler should be directly under the heat shield that's back there. PO made that dumb mistake...

I agree, whats wrong with the stock muffler imo they sound the best :P haha. blowmaster sound horrible when your car is cold. I suggest just keeping it stock you will see no performance difference only nasty sound. Supreme Member

Re: The best mufflers for V6 !!!!!
I just put a dynomax cat back on with a mangaflow cat this past weekend. It sound amazing at idle. Sounds like an eight at idle. It not raspy at all when rippin on her. A lil drone at highway speeds in overdrive but nothing close to them fart cannon cars. Im actually very happy with the sound. Not to mention my acceleration is alot better...i give most of the credit on acceleration due to the old cat being orginal. I have to agree with above people. Flowmaster does nothing close to being the master of flow. Plus flowmaster sounds like crap on a v6....wayyy to raspy and alot of drone! I love the way my car sounds. It sounds beautiful at idle and not raspy at all when rippin on her.

Re: The best mufflers for V6 !!!!!
I never installed it technically I paid someone $290 to cut off my cat and put a 2.5" down pipe from the y pipe back to a flowmaster 80series. Complete waste of money should of just replace the muffler with an oem one. The original muffler was quite compared to the flowmaster.

The popping would not be noticeable if I still had a cat instead of a glasspack . I plan on changing that when I get around to putting a new high flow cat on . Not going to be anytime in the near future though .

I'll tell you one thing though, I wasn't really thrilled with the Thrush (24207, same diameter, different length) on my Grand Prix (FWD LH0, same numbers, different pipes make the sound different, which is probably why entrig doesn't like the sound of the Cherry Bomb), and when the stocker was on, other than by looking at the tach, you couldn't even tell the engine was running. It was whisper quiet.

PO made that dumb mistake...
) I should have it up tomorrow, anyways.BTW, when I do post, keep in mind that my IAC is rather slow, I have 2 lean injectors, and I still have WAY too many exhaust leaks to be really comfortable. Re: The best mufflers for V6 !!!!!
Stock muffler is $40, my Thrush is half that... My entire muffler system (from the muffler out) costs less than that if you exclude the resonating tip. Never heard a stocker, but I don't like any of GM's stock mufflers anyways, especially on a car that is supposedly high performance.

Re: The best mufflers for V6 !!!!!
That is exactly what my 80 series sounds like (minus the whine). When I first got it, it sounded retarded mean. Cammed v8 even. Whenever I started it, me and my buddies would bust up laughing because of how brutal it sounded, yet it really wasn't. It had tons of drone in overdrive, to the point that you'd have to yell to have a conversation. Then I went on a 6000 mile road trip and it sorted itself out by the end and now sounds like the above clip. No more drone either.
