Re: The best mufflers for V6 !!!!!
I've been tossing around the idea in my head about what kind of muffler i could get to replace a stock muffler. I like the stock sound, i just want a tad louder, and maybe a bigger diameter for a deeper tone.

Stock exhaust warning! watch at your own risk!
you may not like this at all, but since I already have this clip on youtube and I have a V6, I figure I would post it
I like it... It was cold outside that day, which is why there's so much smoke

Hmmm... Haven't seen this thread in a while. Going to have to get another clip when the work is done. All I can say is it's going to be different
. The rest will be shown in pics.
Don't ask how long it's going to take... Have too much going on at the same time on an ever-tighter budget. I'm hoping July, but it looks as though it could be a bit longer than that if I can't get some more hours at work.

Re: The best mufflers for V6 !!!!!
I haven't been in this thread for a while also. And I think I mite have promised a sound clip of my car with a Flowmaster 80's series? I don't remember.... But anyway, long story short the flowmaster was on a 2 month back order and at the time I figured the car was going to be on the road in a few weeks, so I ended up buying a cheapy Walker Muffler (Dynomax, I think?). Costed me 40$ or so at *cost*. But it ended up taking 5 or more months to get the car on the road lmfao. Anyway, I have a few video's and if you want to spend some time watching and lisening then knock yourself out:
Here is NO muffler:

Really low idle, BADA$$ sound!

Here is a video of my 3.1 Firebird. The engine was just rebuilt. The exhaust is a new Walker y-pipe, new Walker direct fit Cat. Then it's a 2.5 strait pipe all the way to the back.

Re: The best mufflers for V6 !!!!!
I know this isn't going to help the poster, but it may benefit others...
I had my exhaust fall off at the Y-pipe very shortly after I bought my car, and couldn't stand it. It may be because it was exiting right out the passenger door, but it was just too loud. Sounded nice, and I enjoyed it for the first few minutes, but when I got to work I was very glad. Welded it that night and never could have been happier.
I plan to convert to true duals soon (just getting rid of the T-pipe, so I decided to do overkill) and I think I'll have it exit right in front of the rear wheels pointing about 45 degrees back. I'll post what I think of it.
Also I was wondering, what do I do about only having one O2 sensor for duals? Can I put it on only one side, or will my computer then alter the fuel mixture excessively?

Re: The best mufflers for V6 !!!!!
Personally I would not go with Magnaflow and flowmaster cause are v6 sound so high pitch with those mufflers. Dynomax is what I recommenced.
I know There is a sound clip on here somewhere, if I find it I'll edit/post it
----edit---
Found it check it out
Dynomax
also if you want a full exhaust system there is a Dynomax Super Turbo Exhaust Systems from summit and it is a cat-back

So I got dynomax kit with new cat and everything. Had a local shop do it and I think my pipes are too close to my car because its making a funny noise sometimes when I hit certain rpms... I will have
To take it back to the guy and tell him it needs to be adjusted ??
What do u guys think.

I went to Rockauto and ordered the Walker Cat. along with the Walker hush muffler. I think mine sounds great. When I get home Monday I will put up a sound clip of it. It's basically the factory exhaust system for the car. I'm really pleased with it.

Re: The best mufflers for V6 !!!!!
Sound clip, well youtube clips, before and after
Before V6 stock MPFI 2" pipe, single tip exhaust.. Got that real bad ***** back throttle going..
After V6 Magnflow 12266 2.5 inch pipe front to back, cat deleted, dual tips out
a little bit of ***** rattle on one down throttle
but sounds way better..
That's it for this year for upgrades.. Got aftermarket power windows, power locks, new door panels, headliner, and now the exhaust
Got a 1974 international pickup to work on, its sitting on a 1990 chevy frame, and I will be lowering it and putting in air bags over the summer..

Re: The best mufflers for V6 !!!!!
Dug this back up from the grave for a post on Facebook where a 3.1 driver is looking for a new muffler...
Work is finished. Been finished. Still fighting exhaust leaks (modified headers
) and pipe alignment, but I've been told by several techs I work with they can't tell it's a 6.
Going to get a new exhaust clip soon, probably in the next couple of days if it doesn't rain.
3.1/3100 small port hybrid, 11.4:1 CR. PaceSetter headers modified for 3100 bolt pattern feeding a MagnaFlow 3" catalyst which dumps into a TPI factory replacement 2.5" intermediate pipe feeding a Walker (Dynomax) Super Turbo Installer 17615 2.5" offset in/center out muffler with 90* bend on outlet feeding a 10" Flowmaster slant cut tip. I wish I had the funds to have the headers' crossover pipe replaced with a 2.5" pipe as the 2.25" is too small (seriously, I had to buy a $20 Summit adapter to go between it and the cat inlet instead of the $5 parts store ones!). Going to have to cough up the money for a custom tail pipe as the 17615 is 6 full inches shorter than the factory muffler and the Thrush turbo and right now my tail pipe is dumping under the trunk well
.

Re: The best mufflers for V6 !!!!!
There's one floating around somewhere with the Thrush on it when I was having electrical issues (C207
). I like this one much better
. Unfortunately, I didn't get the sound clip today... Either way, it's going to sound a bit like crap thanks to the header leak (I wouldn't mind my welder back).

ok this is crazy....this has been going on since 2009...lol well I'm going to make an exhaust clip for everyone today so you have an idea of what it sounds like with a full exhaust system headers all the way back with cat and magnaflow 2 1/2in dual exit muffler

I'm sorry guys, I love you all in the V6 section but I'm so glad I put the OEM exhaust on my car. I'm not a fan of the exhaust sound track. The motor its self sounds nice though.

Re: The best mufflers for V6 !!!!!
FINALLY got a chance to take and upload mine to Photobucket (since it's probably too large to fit here). It's longer than I would like, and about only the first minute is worth anything here.
Please forgive my header leak (working on it, I promise) and my noisy fuel pump (that's the way it always sounds ever since I put it in... It's under the hump in front of the driver's rear seat's bowl). And of course, my high idle (I seriously can't seem to get this thing to idle under 1000 RPM reliably... been working on it since I got it running last June).
http://s988.photobucket.com/user/mav...tml?sort=3&o=0
:edit: And I haven't watched the clip myself so I can't tell if the cam is too close to the car or not... I kind of forgot how far away I usually park the cam

I like a 1000-1200 RPM idle in stick car or motorcycle, keeps the engine close to the min take off speed, nothing worse then a low idle and a lazy launch in traffic n it farts n dies...... I like to be able to let out the clutch and not need to give lots of gas.

Re: The best mufflers for V6 !!!!!
I've been trying to get the idle lower for the colder winter months when I want to run the engine to warm up the car (especially last winter...) and not burn ridiculous amounts of gas. But the primary problem is my MSII code and my IAC don't agree with each other (I have to shut the engine off and restart it to get it to idle below 1500 RPM to start with). MS2Extra works the IAC properly but the rest is a royal PITA to get everything right.
I'd try posting the vid here but TGO doesn't accept AVI files...

Well I finally got a decent clip of my idle with the turbo. 2 1/2 inch from the downpipe all the way out. Single in/out Thrush welded muffler with the exit next to the driveshaft. Muffler mounted in the catcon location.

Guess I'll become a member of YT (been trying rather hard to avoid it) and repost my newest clip...
Back on point, can we get an active moderator to make this a sticky? There's people on here and Facebook and other places always asking "how will X Y or Z mufflers sound on my V6?".

found this on YT....Flowmasters....I have to say this damn thing sounds mean...it's a 3.4 so no real difference to our modded motors!
P.S. I'm getting one put in soon, all do to the fact that my motor and Y pipe are louder then my magnaflow...I wanna be heard dammit!
