3.1L Performance Parts info.
Hello fellas,
my brother in-law just picked up a clean 1991 RS w/a 3.1L. Well it wasn't running, so I got it running with a new pick up coil while there I replaced the module, cap & rotor, coil, got to the timing part and guess what..it shocked the crap outta me. Never seen this happen. Anyway...while idling and me wondering what the heck is shocking me(I am sure it is an open circuit somewhere)it blew it's rear main...well now he wants to throw a 350 in her but it's going to cost too much for him to do.
So since I am a LS motor and TPI kinda guy I was wondering what intake manifolds, if avaliable, for this motor? I know the 2.8L has one aftermarket one but nothing I have seen is for the 3.1 THAT I have seen. Any ideas??
We are going with a Comp Cam cam and lifter kit, comp valve springs, going to port and polish the heads for him, do the throttle body porting, headers of course with a cat back. Just stuck on the intake manifold...need an idea. Thanks

Personally, I think that the Trueleo is a waste of $600...but the 3x00 swap needs new pistons and other "custom" parts. I posted links to both so you could see some info.

The 3x00 swap looks interesting. I haven't seen any dyno graph's on the Truelo one though so I can't comment on it, but steel? Hmmm...
has anyone ever used it and gained? And what is gained? Top end hp/tq? Mid range hp/tq? Etc...
I may just see if the stock intake is portable and do that to help him. He bought this and got rid of his riced out Acura Integra so I gotta help him! lol

What about the 3.4 4th gen intake and heads??? Are they any good to use and would they bolt on or will I have to "customize" them? Like I said, I don't know a thing about V6's so I had to ask this.

The heads are the same as what you have on the 3.1. People have also said that the 3.4 intake manifold isnt as good as the 2.8/3.1. A good port and polish of the heads and some porting of the UIM to the LIM has been known to open things up a bit.

Well that's what I wanted to do for him. Just port his heads and do the upper and lower intake, you know, raise the 4,500RPM soild way you hit. He wants it to be able to do some killing instead of being killer all the time. He took a ride in my LS1 T/A and he wants that but knows he can't yet.
Not sure what kit we want to go with yet on the cam but here here is the what I am thinking about.
Cam/Lifters/Valvetrain, Hydraulic Flat Tappet, Advertised Duration 252/252, Lift .425/.425 Comp Cams
Cam/Lifters/Valvetrain, Hydraulic Flat Tappet, Advertised Duration 260/260, Lift .440/.440 Comp Cams
Cam and Lifters, Hydraulic Flat Tappet, Advertised Duration 278/288, Lift .420/.443 Melling(Kinda digging this one)
Not sure how the V6 likes these cams, they seem a little big for a stock motor but with ported heads and intake seems like nice choices.
