Hey Guys im trying to find out how to check codes....if the check engine light doesnt work. I think my gauge cluster is toast, im looking for a new one on e bay but for the time being ive been driving the car for the last 2 days and up until this afternoon it was OK not great but ok but this afternoon it got worse and id really like to know what code its throwing but with out a light ...well ugh.
Is there a plug in tester or do any auto stores check anything pryor to 97 like sears or somebody. Any way thanks for the help

The lighting ciruits for the insturment clusters in these cars VERY RARLY go bad. Have you by chance checked the bulb? It's easy to do and much easier than trying to find a used cluster to install.
The only way to check codes without the bulb is with a GM OBD-I scan tool plugged into the ALDL. There is no other way. Good luck, but I still think you simply have a bulb problem, not a cluster problem. The easy things are always overlooked.

none of the gauges work they dont move the lights dont come on nothing. I thought it might be a fuse but i cant find any burnt fuses. so i was thinking the cluster was just fried or some wires are pulled somewhere either way though i think im gana need to get these gauges fixed b4 i continue with the engine....ugh

I know this may sound dumb but check the fuses out really well. Sometimes you can't tell by visually inspecting them. Turn on the ignition and get a teast light. You can touch both sides of the outside of the fuse where metal is showing. If it lights on both sides then you know its good.
