oil pan/oil pump info

well today I got the pan off of 88 firebird 2.8L it was a p.i.t.a 2 get off. With one jack and some 2x4 it wasnt that bad since Itook the oil pump off when the pan was hanging. I had to clear about 2 1/2 inches to get that pan out.Im starting to clean the pan out and Im gonna start the pump soon just woundering on some info as in cleaning solvents I should use?engine gunk?or wd-40 it would be helpfull on some information. The reason why I took the pan down was to check the pump and it seems fine the sending unit must be broken it would cause the psi to jump between 40 and 80 making the care run like it wanted to stall once the temp was over 200f.

indeed she beat me up but this is not the end not yet even with close 2 200,000 miles she still runs and the tranny is flawless shifting

what are you trying to clean? the pan itself or the pump?
are you going to replace the pump while you have it apart? (i would)

i would use just brake parts cleaner for the pan. as far as cleaning the pump? i wouldnt. buy a new one.

I need to put a new pan on my car. Your pump may work but seeing how you already have it all apart i would just put a new pump in there. It doesnt cost much and trust me dropping the pan sucks as it is. Last thing you will want to do is drop it in 2 months to replace the pump.
