Does this price sound right?

I have an 84 firebird V6. Its been sitting for a while and is leaking oil. I've bought ALL my parts (Oil Pan/pan gasket, Rear Main Seal Gaskets, Trans Pan Gasket) so I went for an estimate today and the mechanic told me $450....He also added that having a bad rear main seal leak is a RED FLAG for my CRANK, but I drove this car with the leaks and all from Michigan to Ohio last summer. How can you tell if have a bad crank? I rides excellent to me, besides the smell of oil...

Feedback please,

Thanks

That sounds good to me if they're gonna fix all that stuff. The rear main seal isn't an easy thing to get to, it requires a pretty good teardown to get it it. I know mine leaks a little, same with the pan gasket, but not enough to drip, just seepage. Rear mains go out in these cars over time, it could be the crank but my guess is it's gust worn out from time.

Re: Does this price sound right?

My mechanic told me 472.10 estimate for a new oil pan, gasket, pump and pickup, with labor included. I thought that was high, now i think its reasonable seeing how i don't have to buy parts.

The '84 rear main seal is 2 piece and can be replaced without removing the engine/crank.
