Electrical gremlins
Long story short I cooked the 2.8 a few years ago and I was trying to start it one time to see if it would move under its own power and I hear a loud pop sound that came through the speakers. I pull the motor and put a junk yard one in. Got it to turn over on its own, get fuel, no spark. Ended up the computer was fried. Bought another one and as soon as I tried to start, it fried that one. Do I have a short under my dash? Everything under the hood is correct. The only question is how many wires go to the big post on the starter? 2 or 3
