just bought a 89 camaro rs 2.8 has no spark just wondering what is the most common problem that i should check im gonna do cap and rotor and ignition modual but if it still has no spark then what just asking ahead of time . i just want to get it running till i drop in the big boy

I'm not sure if the 2.8 has this, but the condenser in the distributor can go bad leading to no spark. This happened on a brand new Mallory distributor I bought. It was the last possible thing that could've gone bad, and it did. Check for continuity across the condenser when you replace the ignition module, just to be sure.

Um, Delco HEI systems stopped using condensers and points back in the 70's...
OP, I'll bet the ignition module inside the distributor is shot. Either that, or there is a broken wire between the ignition coil and the module (or disconnected wire).
