starter problems with cold car
starter problems with cold car
Hello,
I write from Spain, and my English it s not good. I will try to explain well my problem.
I have a 1991 3.1 V6 firebird, automatic
The starter runs well when I try to start the car, but I need at least 20 seconds to get it when the car is cold. When I return to start it in less than 2 hours, it stars at the first time. It seems like there was a hole in the fuel circuit and fuel doesn t arribe. If I see the service soon service, it gives me the code 54. The starter was changed because it didn t worked well, and now I have another repaired mounted.
Sometimes the iddle speed it s slow and the car stops, overcoat when I put the rear gear. If I put any gear, althougt I don t push the accelator, the car runs slowly. Have I a transmision problem?
thanks

Re: starter problems with cold car
Code 54 means there is an electrical problem in the fuel pump relay circuit that sends power to the fuel pump. Which is why the engine has to build oil pressure and takes a while before the fuel pump runs and the engine runs.
Check the small rubber hoses in the engine bay. All of them. Just feel them. If any of them leave black rubber on your fingers, they all need to be replaced, and that could be causing your low speed problems.
I hope you understand this... My Spanish isn't that great.
