Sorted Injector problem thanks to Southbay!
Hi Guy’s,
Just a quick one on something that’s been happening to my car recently, how I solved it and who I’ve got to thank.
Ok so after pulling my car out of hibernation in April after a very long cold winter I noticed she would keep running on 5 cylinders every now and then. Well I suspected my injectors straight away as when I pulled my engine 2 years ago I noticed that some of the injectors had a light bluish jelly type substance in the top of them. I took this to be congealed fuel due to the long periods she spends idle in the winter (when I say idle I mean not moving at all for 6-7 months)
The symptom was that the car ran fine away from idle no problems, but after sitting for an hour or two after a hot shutdown she would start up roughly, hesitate and settle down into a lumpy idle missing a cylinder.
I only ever got one time when my check engine light came on briefly and this proved to be code 45 ‘Rich Exhaust’. She never seemed as though she wanted to stall out or anything, I’d just get this lumpy 5 cylinder thing going on.
I changed the EGR valve, knock sensor, the whole distributor, plug leads, plugs, IAC valve 2 years ago when I did the engine teardown so I didn’t suspect them. So, after reading how unreliable the multec injectors were I decided to pull them and give them the once over. I found 4 injectors were reading between 9.4 and 12.0 on the resistance, one read 8.2 and the last one 6.4! To make matters worse although the jelly like substance had gone there were now tiny bits on dirt around the injector heads and in one there was a bit of loose rubber almost completely blocking the injector intake!!!
So I pretty much guessed this could well have been the root of my problems!
After reading some of your comments on here about injectors I decided to give Southbay Fuel Injectors a call and see if they could fix me up with some better injectors.
To cut a long story short I had a very helpful & friendly and chat with Julie at Southbay who sent me some Bosch 15lb injectors which now reside in my freshly cleaned fuel rail! In all it took 6 days to get from the states to the UK!
The car now runs so sweet it’s a complete joy to drive!
If you need good professional advice about your injectors I can highly recommend Southbay. I feel if you get good service for a company you should spread it about.
Thanks Southbay 12 out of 10!!!
Speed.
