Not third gen related but my dad's friend is giving me an 87 Pontiac Fiero gt and he says it needs a distributor because it would jump the timing or something, the car will start right up and idle a bit high and then when given a little throttle it sounds like it bogs down a bit and makes a rattle noise that doesn't increase with rpm's I'm thinking it's either the pick up coil or the ignition control module any input would be greatly appreciated

almost any ignitioin control module can be tested at your local parts store...advance or autozone is who i use.
