What's the difference?

I'm confused on the differences between the Sport Coupe and Berlinetta Camaro's and which one I have. I've read that the Berlinetta's had A/C and a caperted trunk but haven't seen anything listed beyond that. Can anyone help me tell the 2 apart? Thanks.

Re: What's the difference?

When the third generation was first released, there were three models available:

- the Sport Coupe was the simple base model - you could have it with no options and an inline 4 was the base motor, with V6 and V8 in option.

- the Berlinetta was the 'Grand Tourer', luxury model. Came with elegant trim and more options in standard, as well as am all-digital dash. More comfort-tuned suspension, too. V6 by default, V8 in option.

- and finally, the Z28 was the performance model. Sporty body kit, sporty suspension, V8 standard.

You could have AC in anything, Sport Coupe included. The carpetted trunk walls too, I guess. Just check your VIN or your build sheet, they should tell you what that car is. Also, pictures would help

Thanks a bunch, you actually answered my question very well. As soon as I read that the Berlinetta came with a digital dash and trim, I knew I only have the Sport Coupe. My car only has the analog dash setup and just plain black interior, nothing fancy at all.

Re: What's the difference?

So your car is exactly what mine started as

Anyway, just for the heck of it, here's what a berlinetta looks like:

Note the gold pinstriping and the rims, with both gold and polished areas.

And check this out: http://berlinetta.info/body.htm - Berlis had their own, custom parking lights with added bars (sort of like a second gen) and a metal accent in the tail lights.

All in all, it was a great looking car, and it's a bit of a shame it didn't sell well. There was only about 4200 of them made in 86, as far as I know. Everyone just wanted Z28s and IROCs...

Well, the electronic dash was only from '84 to '86. So if yours is an '86 then that would be the case. Berlinetta's also have gold trim and silver inside pieces on the taillights by the licence plate.

Fifth digit on the VIN is "S" for Berlinetta's.
