V6 Build 3.1-3.4 More Questions.

Alright so i'm mid stage of tear down on the old engine. (3.4 SFI out of a 93 Camaro) I've already bought 3.4 gaskets, 3.4 main bearings, and 3.4 head bolts. In tear down the oil was as thick as pudding, so i'm going to replace the oil pump. The cam was rusted beyond belief so i'll be getting a new cam as well.

As far as adapting it to fit on my car. I was wondering if i can get the straight answer of why i have to adapt the 3.4 engine and what has to be adapted to fit in my 3.1 car. The write ups on this subject are for people who take their engine out and i'm trying to use my camaro while i build this engine. Also beyond the cam and the pump any other parts you guys suggest for a stock reliable rebuild.

there's no reason you can't build that engine while you continue to drive your car. of course the car will have to be down for a few days, at least when you do the swap. you have to "adapt" the 3.4 because you have to reuse some of your 3.1 stuff; such as the intake manifold and exhaust manifolds. you will have a couple of "extra" sensors on the 3.4. I recommend just leaving them in place and cutting the wires off of them. these will be the cam position sensor (top, front of motor), crank position sensor (pass side of block), and oil level sensor (oil pan). if you leave them in place, the holes will be plugged but you won't actually be using them. you will need to put the knock sensor in the pass side of the block. in doing this, i have to notch the pass side motor mount bracket to clear the sensor. you may have to change something with the temp sensor in the head (pass side, i think). and, you'll probably want to use your 3.1 timing cover and harmonic balancer.
