Fuel Pump
I have tried searching, but get tons of hits, and not finding what i'm looking for. Doing some work on my son's 88 sport coupe with a 2.8v6. Gas gauge is not working and it looks like we are going to have to drop the tank. If we have to go in there it's getting a new pump. Can we use a v8 pump with no mods or problems. My understanding the pressure it handled by the regulator, the V8 pump just flows more and any excess fuel will just go back through the return. Am I correct in my thinking, or am I missing something? Thanks all.

Re: Fuel Pump
That's definitely a good idea (to change the pump while the tank is out). I was told a long time ago that the v6 fuel feed & return pressure lines/hoses might be thinner than a v8's, because v6 pump flows less. I never verified this though; you'd need to check it with calipers on a junkyard car (or perhaps part numbers).
I don't see why they'd be different but if it saved GM money, they would've done it.
If you do it, let us know how it goes!!

Re: Fuel Pump
We will be doing it. Going to have to wait a little while. 15 below zero here today. I built a new big garage this fall, but haven't had the time/cash to insulate and heat it yet. Been doing as much over winter as we can.
