Computer switching...

I found an 86 Trans Am sitting in a local wreckers yard. I got to thinking, would there be a benefit for me to put the chip from that car into mine, assuming that the engines are the same size? I was told that had the 2.8 in it. Same as mine, so it shouldn't be a problem, but will it make any difference?

I kinda should have been a bit more clear when I said what I said. I asked the guy what was in the car, and he had told me it had a 2.8 Many of the parts in the car are marked as Trans Am, and The badging on the car looks like it says T/A. I can't be sure of that, because the badging was removed. What else could this car be?

IF it doesn't have ground effects, it's not a TA. And if you're really curious, open the hood, and count sparkplugs. Any way around it, whether it's a 350, a 454, or the rarest of the rare the first and only run edition 2.8 T/A , the computer will either not work in yours, or will be the same. Go to fastchip.com for a chip.

Yeah, but that would involve spending money...speaking of chips, some literature I recently read on them stated that factory chips "are designed to be able to cope with poor fuel quality" so does this mean that I would have to start putting a higher octane fuel in? I can't remember what chip said that, but I'll see if I can find it.

Most aftermarket chip makers do recommend that you use mid-grade or better, no more cheap stuff.

PS: As for being cheap (and I am all about cheapness), as the old saying goes: "How fast can my car go?" "How much money do you have?"
