Ignition upgrades...

I've recently (in the past 1000 miles) been upgrading my ignition system, piece by piece. I've put in Bosch Platinum +4's, Neihoff Platinum 7.5mm wires, and a Blue Streak Cap and Rotor. Given what I have done so far, I am expecting better performance than what I am getting. What is there left to upgrade in my ignition system? I know that a coil and a distributor are both possible additions, but how much will a decent one cost me? TIA for the help.

Brian's right....thats the extent of what you can do with a 2.8.

Here's what I'll have:

Accel cap/rotor/8.8 wires/RapidFires (on now)

Accel 300+ ignition box/coil combo. I like this setup just as good as the MSD 6AL/coil, and it's got 1 major advantage: it's 1/2 the size of MSD box, and under the hood of an Fbody, any space you can save is good.

Brian, I thought I saw on your site you have an Accel box. Is this the 1 you use?? How do you like it??

I've got the Accel 300+, and I love it. You can feel the higher end stays with it, and it revs faster. Combined with my power pulleys, it's a real quick spin up. As for advantages beyond top end power, it helps fuel economy, runs on less voltage then a stock system (which with underdrive pulleys is a must have), and has a rev limiter, so when you're transmission gets buggy (like mine is), you're gauranteed not to blow the engine.

My ignition mods:

Rebuilt distributor (w/Borg Warner parts, didn't know about the same-priced Accel or Mallory spark modules). Accel Cap/Rotor. MSD 6AL box. MSD Blaster SS coil. MSD Superconductor 8.5mm custom-cut wires. Splitfires gapped 0.005 over stock to 0.050", due to MSD box.

I did a few items piece-by-piece, and here's the info:

The 50 ohm/foot MSD wires replaced the 15,000 ohm/foot stock wires. When this happened, the car wanted to "rev up" faster, across the whole tachomter.

The (pre-MSD-box) Accel remote HEI Supercoil, part #140008, gave the car more power in the upper RPM's.

The MSD box & Blaster coil made the car zippier over the whole rpm range, from a stop to WOT.

There's no distributor available besides a rebuild. It rather annoys me that MSD makes a distributor for the 2.3l I-4 Mustang, and not our cars!
